The Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca, the Mosque of the Cristo de la Luz and the Church of Santo Tomé

Toledo is known as the City of Three Cultures due to the coexistence of Christians, Muslims and Jews for centuries. From the Hotel YIT Conquest of Toledo, we invite you to discover the history of this city through the eyes of its emblematic monuments.
In recognition of its cultural and architectural wealth, UNESCO declared Toledo a World Heritage Site in 1986.
Toledo welcomes you with the Puerta de Bisagra, a main entrance to the historic neighbourhood of the city. Here is the Cathedral, the Alcázar overlooking the Tagus River, and the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz. The synagogues of Santa María la Blanca and El Tránsito, the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, the Palace of Fuensalida and the Museum of Santa Cruz are some examples of the city's most important monuments.

Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca

The Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca is notable for its basilica structure with five narrow naves, oriented from east to west. Arcades of large arches separate the naves, where both Christian and Mozarabic influences can be seen. The capitals ornamented with pine cone stems and volutes are true masterpieces. The work is notable for the Almohad influence in the octagonal shape of the pillars and the "sebka" arrangement of the capitals.

Mosque of Cristo de la Luz

It is located next to the walls of Toledo and was built in the year 999. The combination of Visigothic elements, horseshoe arches and the Romanesque-Mudejar influence in the chancel are witnesses of the cultural exchange in the city. In addition, you can see first-hand mural paintings and a foundation inscription in brick that were discovered at the end of the 19th century.

Church of Santo Tomé

The Church of Santo Tomé, mentioned since the 12th century, was rebuilt in the 14th century by the Lord of Orgaz. Its Mudejar tower, with glazed ceramics and Visigothic elements, is considered an architectural marvel. In its interior you can find El Greco's masterpiece, "The Burial of the Lord of Orgaz". This oil on canvas captures the essence of the artist's genius and the devotion of the parish priest Andrés Núñez de Madrid.
